<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw who teaches law at Columbia has been
documenting the murder of women of African descent for over thirty years. The double tragedy is that nothing is done to
find the guilty, many of them have been killed by the police and their names
are never published. She puts a name and
a face to those murdered women. She
developed the theory of intersectionality which describes the place women of
African descent are socially.
Euro-American men get away literally with murder and racism. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">An Afro-American woman took a company to court for racism,
she lost her case because the company hired women and Afro-Americans. However, the office staff was made up of
women who were of Euro-Americans and the Afro-American men worked in the
factory. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Some Euro-feminist group do speak out against violence
towards Afro-American women. However,
they concentrate on the internal violence which is in their community and
identify their men as the guilty one.
Their men are perceived erroneously as criminals which is what prison
records show there are more Afro-Americans in jail than any other group except
for First Nation young men. In a way,
Euro-American/Canadian women back their men and the police stats instead of
working on POLICE violence. They do not point a finger at the POLICE and the
need to change their mentality and need to be educated. Hence, nothing changes.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">A similar culture exists in Canada Euro-feminists will look
at violence in First Nation communities and in the Afro-Canadian instead of
looking at POLICE VIOLENCE and cultural biases based on cultural assumptions
and systemic Euro-male racism. Yet,
Euro-Feminist will not look at how the law has treated them and how those laws
caused the deaths of thousands of women. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Idle No More and the Missing and Murdered women are First
Nation initiatives that is pressuring the government of Canada for years. They have
gotten recently some backing from Euro-Canadian women and the government opened
an inquiry. The women who are missing or
murdered have no name, no faces they are unknown or unremembered y
society. We need to see a face to have a
name, as these women have mothers, sisters, cousins and friends who care and
want answers. They may even have kids
who wonder what happened to my mother. The
women of Valdor had their case dismissed not long ago for lack of proof, police
harassment is real in Canada, it is part of profiling and based on prejudice:
she is drunk, she was stoned, she wanted me I am entitled the police says same
as the priest who raped women. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">A Euro-male Law made it legal to hunt down “witches” and to
kill them, remember Salem witch trial and the Inquisition to rob women of their
land and money. The legal system and the police did not recognized rape as a
crime. How many women were raped and
even killed by their boyfriends or husband and the police never reacted? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 18.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Euro-males have used words to divide women a by religion, ethnicity
and skin tone: Muslim woman is murdered it is an honor crime – an Afro-American
woman gets killed it is a femicide --- a First Nation woman gets murdered it is
a murder and yet when a Euro-American or Canadian woman gets killed by a
jealous husband or boyfriend it is a homicide or family violence. Truth be told
they were all murdered be it by one of their men and by the POLICE
(Afro-American/Canadian First Nation women) not as many Euro-Canadians. Euro-feminist are following in the footsteps
of Euro-Males and as women we must show empathy and solidarity with all women
who are murdered and stop pointing a finger at their men and start looking at
our males who make the law and impose it hence justifying legally their
violence. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Intersectionality by Celine Leduc <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">METHODDOLOGY <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Intersectionality</span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"> a word first used by Dr. Kimberlé
Crenshaw that describes the plight of women of African descent who get killed
by the police and whose names we do not know.
Dr. Crenshaw made me think that African descent women are not alone the
same principle can be applied to any woman that is NOT of European descent OR
mentality. Euro-Canadians and
Euro-Americans like their European counterpart do not use the principle of
intersectionality correctly, and we DO NOT speak of women of African descent and
other woman as strong leader, heroes and role models to counter
stereotypes. We also silence their
voices and refuse to talk about the two or three sides of the same problem,
history is often five sided. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Radical pluralism</span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"> (Dr. Amina Wadud) which challenges
Muslims on the inclusion of women imams and the LGBT community. I use her methodology
to include women from all ethnicity, religion and sexuality <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">“Ourstory”</span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"> (Professor Bayyinah Bello) and my
prism or focus which is “I and the Other”.
“I” is me and my relationship with myself, my family, my society and
other. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">“I and the Other”</span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"> my relationship with others starting
from me and knowing who I am and my culture.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Five-sided history: my version the other’s version my heroes
their heroes and our new version that is inclusive and honest. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">In this short article or overview, I will address racism and
reverse racism, derogatory language we use, and look at my relationship with
others. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Each community has suffered exclusion and has been maligned
in a different manner yet in similar method is used and is based on a premise
that is a conclusion and not a question which causes a faulty theory. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">SILENCE AND EUROCENTRICITY
<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">My culture which is Euro-Americans which includes Americans
(US) Canadians as England, France played a major role in colonization and the
romanization of the Americas by Christian Eurocentric male leaders who wanted t
make the American continent male and male only leadership. Males attitudes towards the other ethnic
groups: African, Arabs, Asians, First
Nation descent women/men. Religion or
religious supremacy Christianity that negates Judaism and Islam hence excludes diversity
in spirituality. Language used to
describe “the other”. Perception of “the
Other” his/her contribution negated through silence. Non-inclusive
history epic stories and the silencing of all descent by not recoding the voice
of women and all other ethnic groups. In
other words if it is NOT written it does not exist. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">What is romanization of Europe and Euro-Americans it
includes: religion (Christianity and conversion), language English or French
most words are from the Latin, laws based on Roman laws that govern women and
all others that are not males. Those
values and ideologies were imported in the New World and Africa. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">The word “Intersectionality” and the movement “Black Lives
Matter (BLM)” have something in common they were appropriated by Euro-Americans
which includes Canadians scholars. Intersectionality in Euro-American ways
focus solely on the intersectionality of White women as being central. In the
BLM which is an Afro-American reality that
highlights Police Violence like Intersectionality people
of African descent have been criticized and accused of being racist or using
reverse racism. In the BLM movement,
Euro-Americans say all life matters except that of Afro-Americans. This is “Old
Husband Tales” or fake news or urban legends therefore, nothing changes except
for terminology that is being appropriated and hijacked. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Old Husband tales or how a minority became the moral compass of
the world. One expressions that is
repeated mindlessly by the dominant society (men-women). It starts with Visible minority and yet it is
not honest as we only see White people which is the true visible minority as
the European or Caucasian race is a minority in the world; by looking at it
from this prism a new reality will emerge hopefully. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Intersectionality is about a Black women’s place in society
she is inferior to all in Eurocentric society.
White feminist see her as a victim of abuse they perceive her as being
violated and violent. She is of inferior
intellect as she is often the family leader, the sole earner in a single-family
home. She is living on government aid be it in the US or Canada, her wages are
lesser than others and she has problems getting a good job even with a degree
or two. Hence her kids are considered
uncivilized or even uncivil. Once again Old Husband Tales and FAKE news.
Because, no one has taken in consideration racism and slavery. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Euro-Americans take slavery as something that happened in the
past no one looks at the effect on people now. They also never look at the consequences
of war and their bragging. Lower paying
jobs, being exclude from some jobs even if qualified or eve overly qualified
such as women who had two degrees (Master’s) to work as a filing clerk with n
chances of getting a promotion. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Racism and reverse racism a sneaky way Eurocentric males us
to avoid taking responsibility for racism by pointing an accusing fingers
towards the other and avoiding to look at himself as males are the ones who
classified people by ski tone making white the ultimate and superior race. Also,
pushing eugenics as it proves their superiority and allows them to conduct
inhumane research: look at residential schools in Canada, Concentration camps
in Nazi Germany, conducting medical experiments on people of African descent
including infecting them with gonorrhea without asking or sterilizing African
women or testing new drugs all done without their consent including testing African
men or women jailed with HIV/AID. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">FOREIGN CREDENTIALS AND
JOBS IN CANADA AND THE USA<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Medical doctors</span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"> with a medical degree from The France
or England which is recognized internationally and that person worked at the UN
to set up clinics all over the African continent. She or He cannot work in Quebec because they
do not have a degree from Canada or Quebec.
Because of immigration doctors who are knowledgeable about some tropical
diseases are needed. This puts the life
of patients at risk of misdiagnosis: Sickle Celle anemia or malaria or other
unknown illnesses. Even if they do the
classes required they might not be accepted in the Doctor’s association because
they have no experience in Quebec. They end up sweeping floors in a hospital,
working as caregiver or working in telemarketing to make ends meet. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Accountants </span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">women and men who worked at the World
Bank cannot find a job in accounting for the same reason. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Architects</span></b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">, engineers cannot be recognized in
the professional associations because, they do not recognize foreign
degree. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">EURO-WOMEN FOLLOW IN
MEN’S FOOTSTEPS <o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Few if any Euro-Feminist have looked at their attitude
towards women of African descent or other women. Few or no one has dared challenge Old Husband
Tales. It seems that woman of European
descent fear men and on the other hand want to recreate the same world order
but feminize it and that is a danger.
Feminizing the world order means that the leaders will be women however
the principles the core values will remain as is, as they DO NOT rock the boat,
in other words nothing will change. The rationale behind this unspoken reality
is: it worked for men it will work for us, men have lead as patriarchs gave us
patriarchy now welcome the matriarch era and matriarchy. The status quo remains
and the same hierarchy remains intact as romanization of the world continues
unchanged and unchallenged. Some of the
challenges is romanticizing the past as being glorious based on the false
premise of winning a war. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">THE SOLUTION AND CONCLUSION<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">By using intersectionality as Dr. Crenshaw uses it, adding
the idea of radical pluralism of Dr. Amina Wadud, add to this Professor
Bayyinah Bello idea of Ourstory and using these teaching to my interest which
is I and the other my relationship to the other based on knowing myself, my
society my culture vis-à-vis women of various backgrounds. Our story has a
beginning and mine starts with Cleopatra VII and two perceptions that are
opposite the stories from the West or North makes her into a slut, a coward and
loser plus she is whitewashed as she is White. The Egyptian perspective makes
her a Black woman, that was a great business woman, who defended her land and
who was courageous and she was killed or murdered twice: First physically by
the goons of Augustus and the secondly by his historians Plutarch and Cicero and
their biased view became the blueprint for Euro-historians, the story of the
military victorious. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Ancient Romans used rhetoric instead of philosophy as they
sold their lies for over two-thousand years.
Their objective was to make the world UNIVERSALLY ROMAN. One god man,
one language Latin which became the language of god and history which is his
epic story. It was Julius men who burned
the Library of Alexandria that included everyone and their lineage and history
as identity mattered as did lineage, ethnicity religions and language which was
the Greek way. History is his story and
the epic story of women who emulated Him it is NOT “ourstory” it is His story
will now be feminized to become “Herstory” of glory or epic story and not
“Ourstory”. Greeks offered at least five
version of facts so people could be properly informed. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

HOMA HOODFAR <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;"> Dear President Obama </span><br />

<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
I am not an American citizen however my mother was born in Upper State NY and I was born in Canada. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
I have written to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mr. Dion of international affairs, RE: DR HOMA HOODFAR. However, there is a problem in Canada as noted in my letter to the Prime Minister Canada severed all tights with Iran in 2012 Hence I am coming to you because you have diplomatic ties with Iran and you might be able to do something to help her come back to Canada. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Dr. Homa Hoodfar is a professor from Concordia University anthropology dept. Her being imprisoned in Iran makes me very sad. She is not a political activist. She is not against the government of Iran. She always gave students a balanced point of view about women and Iran. She is a scholar and an anthropologist but most importantly a human being who has a great heart. She has a stroke needs medical attention and her medication. She needs to see her lawyer and her family needs to know what is happening. On a humanitarian level can you please intercede in her favor? Thank you Sir. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Dr. Hoodfar prior to her retirement was always ready to help students if we did not understand the culture or ethos of Iran. I consulted her more than once when I had a radio show on CKUT FM Twisting Tongue 1995 to 2001. She never said no, when she could help. She would guide me and refer me to the proper sources or key women. I had her as a guest a few times and she was a pleasure to interview and work with, as she described women from the Middle East and Iran as being strong and resilient. She is not against the religion of Islam nor the leadership in Iran. She travelled many times to Iran as a scholar and was never detained or accused of any crime. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Canada does not have an embassy in Iran since 2012. However, I am sure that Canada can intervene in her favor as a woman who has dual citizenship Canadian/Iranian whether she travelled with an Iranian or a Canadian passport. She is Canadian, she is a woman and a scholar. You need to find ways to help her get back home to Canada and her loving family and friends. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">

LET US STOP CELEBRATING COLONIALISM --- LET US CELEBRATE FREEDOM THROUGH TRUTH<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
TODAY is celebrating Colonialism British and French hence perpetuating colonialism and neocolonialism and negating all those who are NOT White European making it an all-White holiday that also celebrates a history that is full of slavery, domination and celebrates White supremacy and privilege. Let us celebrate freedom by facing our history acknowledging our past and start a new tradition that is inclusive of all. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Queen Victoria ruled over the world and knew that the sun never set on the British Empire. During her reign we Canada was a Dominion and we were given the BNA Act (British North American Act) and the “Indian Act” in both cases women were not persons under the Law. Queen Victoria did not believe in suffrage for women. Meaning women did not have the vote, even if requested by Suffragettes. First Nation women who could vote lost their right and so did men because they were considered to be “ORIENTAL” after all they were renamed “Indian” meaning they came from India. They were serfs and now under THE law they became children like women they were not able to make decision on their own they need a man a White man of European background to tell them what to do and how to do it, that man is known as the “great White Father” Not so great in my opinion. Because Father did not know best. As a woman how can I celebrate a woman who did not believe I could think and vote? As a woman how can I celebrate colonialism? Nine (9) provinces and territories celebrate Queen Victoria but not in Quebec. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Quebec does not celebrate because they claim it is not proper as England colonized France, therefore they decided to celebrate First Dollard des Ormeaux and then settle on the Patriots of 1837. The Patriots are also a symbol of colonialism. They have been made into heroes by some French speaking Canadians as they fought against England hence they promote war and not PEACE. Secondly, the ones from Chateauguay wanted to go to war with Mohawks and with the British. On a Sunday morning when Mohawks were attending Mass in the Catholic Church they made their way to Kahnawake to steal their hunting guns and attack the Mohawk’s. One woman who was late saw them coming and alerted the men at Church and the Patriots were defeated and rounded up and given to the British. It was not the place of Mohawks to put them on trial it was for the governments of Upper Canada to deal with the men who were at war with both the Mohawks and England. They wanted to rule over Quebec and be under France and the politicians of the time enforced the Code of Napoleon in 1804, where women all women had NO RIGHTS. The leadership of France was and is Misogynistic. As a woman how can I celebrate the Patriots who wanted to make sure I had no RIGHTS… Plus, these men wanted to keep their slaves Black or First Nation. England had banned slavery in all its colonies and Upper and Lower Canada were colonies. How can I celebrate colonialism, neo-colonialism, misogyny and slavery as a Woman? <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Be it Queen Victoria day or Patriot day represents oppression of First Nation those of African descent which include former slaves, and makes Jews, First Nation, African-Canadians and women second class citizens… LET US STOP CELEBRATING COLONIALISM MISOGYNY AND INTELLECTUAL SLAVERY. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
SOLUTION push for a new holiday that celebrates FREEDOM based on truth. </div>

PERSONAL INFORMATION about my
life and what has made me very happy and cry. I was brought up Catholic and I
did not agree with a great deal of prejudiced peddled religiously and also
politically by leaders by men. I never believed Jews killed Jesus or that
Muslim were devils. Religious leaders wanted me to go to heaven and politicians
wanted to go to war. My society the men lied to me big time and I wanted to
know truth that included everyone.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I met women and became friends
with Jewish who came from Egypt. The taught me that religion was NOT the
problem it was politics and nationalism. I did my MA degree on Jewish women who
came from Egypt and lived in Montreal adding a section about Egypt and their
struggle.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
To be fair and honest I met
Muslim and Copt women who also came from Egypt, to get more information and be
accurate in my depiction of society and the reality women of all three
religions faced.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I did address the facts that Jews
in Egypt were targeted by the leaders that Umm Khaltum did call for their death
but also that there were friends and even some Jewish men and women did marry
Muslims and Copt Christian. Truth was much more complex and much more intricate
that I was told. Women all attended Catholic School in Alexandria (Jewish
Christian and Muslim) The schools were run by nuns from France because of
colonialism<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Most Canadian or Quebec research
had been done here by using books and travel logs written by men who had an
agenda. They called themselves anthropologist and NEVER talked to the people of
the area it was their narrow-minded opinion that was full of prejudice,
arrogance and superiority. Women from Egypt talked about themselves and their
life their friends their family that often included women or men of different
religions or ethnicity. Their reality was quite different that what history or
anthropological books were about ass they were based on voyage logs, travel
guides, missionary diaries which were used to write books and not one of those
academics asked the people. In the religion Dept. of Concordia we used books
and oral history to write about a group any group.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
People read my MA thesis and
appreciated my work I was given the greatest of all honors AJOE Association des
Juifs Originaires d'Egypte included me in their association not as a member
only but on the board. Since a person had to be Jewish and from Egypt they gave
me the nationality and the religion no rabbi needed to official the member
voted me in unanimously. Same thing happened with some Egyptian who were Muslim
they included me as both Egyptian and Muslim women did no conversion nor
government involved. BTW Egyptians call or refer to me as the Blonde Egyptian
(blondes are not dumb in Egypt they are cool intelligent people LOL). Because
of Egyptian or of those born in Egypt (women and men) I am not only Catholic by
birth but also Jewish and Muslim and Egyptian. One friend jokingly said if you
are banned from one heaven you can come to Jewish or Muslim heaven because you
are loved by us.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Yes, I did speak of the horror of
nationalism and radicalization due to fanatics but also of the people. I love
the people from Egypt and my heart is partly in Egypt and the other part in
Canada.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
This experience lead me to.First
Nation people and I became friends with Mohawks of Kahnawake later with Ojibwa
and Shalish and Cree many have adopted me unofficially as a friend because I
used the same technique looking at the "Big Minds" and their lies and
adding the voice of the people.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
It all started because of a big
hug a woman gave me, when I was ten years old, she was Black and I use to play
with her son and was told by my father not to play with him. I was so angry at
my father, found it unfair on his part. I went to my friend's mother and cried
and ranted all she did was give me a hug and told me "I was right"
she added that I needed to listen to my father however but I was RIGHT. A hug
can change a life it did mine.<o:p></o:p></div>

<strong>The Poetess</strong></div>
<div style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
She called herself a<br />poetess because she liked<br />the sound of it. Much<br />better than calling herself<br />a teacher. So plain, so<br />common,<br />so like the girl next<br />door. But a poetess<br />could soar<br />to places no teacher<br />could go. So she<br />told all she met she was a<br />poetess. A teacher too, but<br />now a poetess. It<br />was like graduating<br />from one level to the<br />next. The simple folks didn’t<br />understand, they thought<br />she had done something<br />great. She walked with a<br />spring to her step. Her<br />expression serious. They turned<br />around as they saw her pass.<br />She felt such pride.<br />At last<br />to be known. Even if to<br />just a few. They did<br />not know she had<br />nothing to show.</div>

His voice lifted her. She was<br />caught in the light of his eyes. His words<br />guided her on her way.<br />He moved his lips and her arms rose<br />to obey. She picked up the load<br />silently groaning at the weight. Too heavy<br />for a frail body like hers already<br />battered like an old ship in a stormy sea.</div>
<div style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
He told her it was so and she<br />did as he bid. He left her to her chores to<br />indulge in more important things. Later<br />in the evening he returned<br />to inspect and smiled<br />at her effort. She moved back into her shell.<br />Her day was done but rest was still<br />far away. The clock hadn’t<br />struck the hour. Her silent groans<br />unheard, swallowed,<br />hard and dry like old chapatti.</div>

Today is Holocaust remembrance day it reminds us of what hate and indifference can do to people. Soulmates are separated friendships broken people die because of hate ... I wrote this poem for two friends whose only crime was loving one another in a climate of hate where Jews were vilified by the Nazi and yet these two <span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">friends one Jewish on German never stopped loving one another, they were SOULMATES One was shot by borders guards trying to escape the other one died in in Concentration Camp 2 years later. She was trying to go home, to be with her soulmate, to be ONE to be WHOLE.</span></div>

It is happening now in the Middle East because of Daesh it is happening again in Europe because of immigration and migration Jews, Muslims Roma are the target of hate GROUPS.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
This poem is dedicated to all of those who love and remain faithful to the one love in their life regardless of ethnicity, background, religion or skin tone no matter if the leaders tell them to hate. Evil men say: her hate him they disobey and still love and go through adversity because they know the power of TRUE LOVE. They know themselves, their culture their flaws and their strengths they know that love the power of one of wholeness of being complete.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">My first encounter with a Muslim woman was about 45 years ago at a friend’s house. I was under the impression because of ignorant journalists that Muslims and Jews hated each other. One of my friends (Jewish and Israeli) had invited me to help her prepare a small party. We were going to play cards which meant lots of talk and a feast. The hostess had food that was filling, appealing and plentiful, the secret of a successful party. The leftovers were distributed when guests were leaving. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">By then I had been properly trained, and she knew I could make falafel, cut vegetables for each dish be it a salad or to dip in hummus. We had some fresh pita and some was roasted in the oven and served warm and a bit spicy and crispy.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Finally, for desert, we had baklava and good “Turkish” coffee. So I went to her house the day before, because some salads had to marinate. I slept over and the next morning, we were cooking up a storm. We started by making the hummus and then the falafel and all the salads. Yes, my vegetables were cut in small pieces, my garlic properly crushed and the parsley chopped finely. Onions were marinated that same day with a bit of salt and lemon juice. For the falafels, the tomatoes were sliced paper thin, so were the cucumbers. We made a cabbage salad the night before because the cabbage and onions had to marinate in the lemon and olive oil overnight for flavor and texture. It was flavored with garlic (roasted and raw) and various spices and herbs. Taste and presentation were so important and the pride of all women because we liked to show off our culinary skills, To our mind, hospitality is central to the tradition. Coffee and baklava was to be served last.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Two tables were set up, one on which to play cards, and the other as a buffet that included the all the various salads, falafel, hummus, tzatziki with pita bread and the seasoned crispy pita. The buffet was dairy and kosher hence, there was no meat so everyone could eat and enjoy. No wine or alcohol was served because a few Muslim women were coming over. They would eat kosher food, but no alcohol. Cultural etiquette demanded that all guest were to be respected be it dietary needs or religiously. Muslim women were as respectful when their turn came and so were Greek Orthodox women. When they invited Jewish women they went out and bought serving dishes in foil and thick paper plates, to respect dietary kosher law. The cups for coffee were in fine porcelain to serve the coffee or tea. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">The women came in and introduced themselves; one woman came from Alexandria and was a descendant of Alexander the Great, and she was Greek Orthodox. Another woman from Yemen was Muslim and a descendant of the Prophet. Yet another Muslim woman was from Iraq. My friend was originally from Yemen was Jewish and had moved to Israel. As for me, I was born in Canada, Irish and French origins and brought up Catholic. Religion was a plus and not a problem.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Culture and tradition united the women and the food was known and loved by all, as the hostess made sure that each person had a special dish, such as tzatziki for the woman from Greece and the soft pita. Hummus, falafel and salads everyone loved. Baklava was Greek and Turkish in origin but all knew it and loved it. Some was flavored with orange water, others with rose water, and honey syrup was used in both cases. The coffee was interesting as I was told the following: Turkish coffee was served to Jewish women, Greek coffee to the woman who was Greek and Arabic coffee to our guests from Yemen and Iraq. Each coffee is similar, but prepared a bit differently due to the technique of boiling and sweetening and the serving. As a Canadian, I could not see the difference and wondered, "Why so much fuss? Make drip coffee." My friend told me, "No we do not drink American coffee when we get together, you know that we need to have good coffee." She then explained it is out of respect for the women - Greece had been attacked by the Turks, and they had a war with the Arabs. The Arabs were defeated by the Turks and the Greeks. but Jews had been well treated by the Turks during the period of the Ottoman Empire. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">If you have a friend that is Armenian, serve them Arabic Coffee as they were invaded by both the Turks and the Greeks. So much to remember and to think of when inviting people. Mediterranean culture is complex and diverse, and it seemed to me that women had found a way to get along and be friends based on respect for each other and knowing one another’s history. Food well prepared, served, and prepared with lots of love and caring, was the solution. A bit too much caring when it came to eating made these card games interesting and very festive.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Women were great at offering food; actually food was not only offered but pushed on the guest. Have this dish, "You did not eat," and, "You do not like the food," was repeated by every hostess. "Do not be shy, eat, come on you have to eat, try this dish. I made it for you. Let me make you something you like. Eat, come eat, you are not eating enough." </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">If my plate was not full enough, one of the women would add more food. Now, if I happened to say I liked a specific dish, she would go and make some for me and would make sure I had enough for a whole week. At times food fights verbal fights would go on until the guest was so full we would need to go out for a long walk and fast for the rest of the day. Some women gave me fantastic advice: When you come to an event or card game, do not eat breakfast and you will not to have supper, just enjoy the food. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Culturally, I found out that to be polite in some groups like in Tunisia or some parts of Iraq, you had to refuse three times before you accepted food. In Egypt, Yemen, and other countries, you had to have seconds and even a third portion to be polite.</span><span style="font-size: 12.8px;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;">Etiquette and cultural knowledge is what binds women together - it is their strength. Food matters as it is part of hospitality, The saints that women go and pray to in order to ask favors also matter. Saints were saints they could be Jewish, Christian or Muslim as each saint had a specific role to play in the life of women. </span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">For more than 50 years, I have had friends that came from Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Israel and Lebanon. Because politics was the problem, we talked about the problems that politicians created. Their views were often backed by uneducated journalists, historians and anthropologists. These men focused on politics and religion that created in our conscious and subconscious a subliminal message of war; whereas my friends and I focused on getting to know each other by sharing the best of our culture and stories that are often never reported or recorded. </span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">I got to know these incredible women and communities because I met a young woman from Egypt who was Jewish. I was around 15, and we met in secretarial school. We would meet every day </span><span style="font-size: 12.8px;">at recess </span><span style="font-size: 12.8px;">in school, and we used to walk to the bus together. I was living outside Montreal in a small village, Léry; and she lived in the Cote des Neiges area of Montreal. We all migrated to Montreal for various reasons: I to attend school, and her family came as refugees and were landed immigrants, soon to be Canadians. </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;">Language was never a problem, I was bilingual French and English and they were polyglots as they spoke, French, English, Arabic, Ladino, Hebrew, Bulgarian and Syriac. As to religion, I was brought up Catholic and they were Jewish. I knew very little about Judaism except some prejudices that were told culturally, such as Jews killed Jesus. This prejudice did not stop us from being good friends; and in time I got to know the truth about Judaism. My friends, however, knew about Catholicism as their mothers had attended Catholic School, in Alexandria. Their moms had a very high opinion of the Nuns because they were by Catholic nuns from France. Their moms thought nuns were the best teachers as they were disciplined and made sure language was respected and well spoken. Hence, the reason their daughters were enrolled in the Notre Dame Secretarial school. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;">The school was run by nuns from the Congregation of Notre Dame. The dress code was strict: skirts that covered the knee, hats and gloves were required as we were young ladies. Plus we needed to have excellent skills in typing, dictation, shorthand, economics, and accounting. I never liked typing nor shorthand, so it was an unpleasant chore. But, we knew we needed those skills to earn a living as a secretary or as a clerk. We were being trained to assist men in their work, follow orders, and do the manual work - or as I call it the grunge and boring work. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;">Our friendship is something I cherish and remember fondly, and this made my studies palatable, bearable, and even enjoyable because my weekends were spent one week at my friend’s house in Cote des Neiges and the other week she came to me.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">In Cote des Neiges at my friend’s house, I had such a good time. I was treated as part of the family - no difference between the girls as we all shared in duties of the house. First we had to study and excel in our schooling; second we needed to learn how to cook, and then learn how to serve the food and entertain guests. Everything was done in coordination, as a community where each person was assigned a job.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">As the new person, I had to learn how to cut vegetables, and her mom taught me to cut in small pieces while her dad from Algeria, showed me how to prepare olives, so they would be flavorful and delicious. I had been used to eating olives out of a jar full of brine. He taught me how to desalt the olives and then marinate them with garlic, some herbs, and put them in a jar full of olive oil and lemon juice. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Her mom showed me the fine art of making stuffed vine-leaves (dolma). Vine-leaves stuffed with rice, onions, meat (ground beef or lamb) and cooked in a sauce made of water, spices and lemon with a tomato. Later, another friend from Iraq gave me her mom’s recipe which used pomegranate juice or syrup. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">We sat around a table, all the girls, and worked together under the watchful eye of the mother. The role of the mother was of a guide and a teacher. Women were in charge of the house: it was their kingdom and they were the law as they passed down tradition.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Mothers are the law and religion must be respected. Therefore, we went to synagogue <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_474321908" style="border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; position: relative; top: -2px; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ" style="position: relative; top: 2px; z-index: -1;">on Saturday</span></span> for Shabbat and <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_474321909" style="border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; position: relative; top: -2px; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ" style="position: relative; top: 2px; z-index: -1;">on Sunday</span></span> we would go to Catholic Church. There was no way of going against my friend’s mother. Synagogue was quite different from Church as we sat in the woman’s section and we could talk during the service. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">One <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_474321910" style="border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; position: relative; top: -2px; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ" style="position: relative; top: 2px; z-index: -1;">Saturday</span></span>, it was the Bar Mitzvah of a young boy who was becoming a man. The family was from Morocco and as per their tradition, the women did the traditional song of joy and threw candies. The rabbi was not very happy, but the women told him off that it was part of their tradition and their mothers and grandmothers did it as a sign of joy and elation for the Bar Mitzvah boy who is now a man. Tradition trumped the law and the rabbi relented grudgingly as he knew that tradition was important. The rabbi was Ashkenazi from Europe and the women where Sephardi from North Africa, and they came from Andalusia, Spain. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">An example of how women were respected and could argue with a rabbi, made me aware of my power as a woman. Well, I tried this method in a Church, when a priest during a sermon reminded the parishioners that Jews had killed Christ; and my friend who was Jewish, was sitting next to me. I stood up in Church and corrected the priest, I was told to sit down and I decided to voice my opinion. Unlike at the synagogue, I was shushed and pulled down to sit, and was even escorted out of the church. I guess no one liked my new tradition of telling the truth as no other woman had done this and traditionally men were the uncontested voice. Interestingly, a few years later after Vatican II, the Pope told Catholics that Jews had not killed Jesus after all: it was the Romans. Mothers in Catholicism are not the law and are told to follow the law and to never question it. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">In the past 50 years, I have met women from the Levant and North Africa from various religions who have shared culture and tradition including a great oral tradition. Women from Egypt told me that a woman needs to have a good education - a minimum of a Master’s degree, and men need to know about business. The reason why a woman needs a Master’s or Doctorate is that it is her job to educate her children, both boys and girls - hence her need of a good solid education. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Men, on the other hand, need to earn money and need to learn business. In Quebec, it was the reverse: a woman did not get a good education, the man had to go to university and get a good job. Today, it has changed. There are more and more women who get a university education. However, it is still not the main focus. </span></div>

<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">TWO SUITCASES<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<span lang="EN-US">By Celine Leduc edited by Norman Simon <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Two suitcases is all that is left of a life.
For the Katbe family. One suitcase for the wife, the other for the
husband. They had four sons: they loved
them, taught them the ways of their world, educated them, and made sure they
married well. The sons immigrated to
Canada became Canadian citizens and yet have remained faithful to their country
of birth and their parents. Their sons
want the best for their parents. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">They are from Syria and are Christians. Syria
is imploding and exploding. Civil unrest creates a very unhealthy climate that
degenerates into pandemonium, into civil war that turns into a full-fledged
war. Bombs explode, homes become empty shells. A bomb falls on the shell of a
deserted, abandoned home - a house explodes in thousand pieces. Whole streets turn into rubble; the man-made
tornado of war circles around like a hawk looking for food. Those warmongers
are hungry for power, for control. They kill the innocent, the unprotected, for
a piece of land, for greed, as they are hungry for power and control so they
can claim victory, plant a black flag tainted with the blood of those who died.
Their victory is built on death, the death of the innocent regardless of
religion or culture. Warmongers are warmongers - they worship the god of war,
of destruction, the god of hell, for their bombs create hell on earth. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Two suitcases for survival linking the peaceful
happy past with the traumatizing insecurity of the present and the uncertain,
traumatizing future. They have to leave their home as war rages on, a civil war
erupted, and a new enemy emerges making their flight an imperative. They flee
war to find safety and hopefully be able find peace and join their children in
Canada. A stopover in Lebanon, a visit
to the Canadian Consulate to make an application for immigration in order to
become residents of the country chosen by their sons, their wives and their
grandchildren.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"> Family
reunification is the order of the day, reunited families is on their
minds. War has caused division that
ripped families apart, forced some to flee to refugee camps full of horror and
fear, where intolerance is the weapon of choice and brutality becomes the
reality as life rarely matters and death is the release.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">At 80, the old couple think what they should
bring. What matters is legacy. They leave behind their locked up home; and,
key in hand, they say farewell, not goodbye as they are hoping to come back
soon.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Two suitcases are packed carefully; two
suitcases, hopefully, a short stay at a relative’s home in Lebanon. They are
lucky they can avoid the danger of the camps. They have family in Lebanon, a
house to stay at for an ailing father and an aching worried mother. They make
their way to Lebanon, leaving their home near Aleppo for a dream of life in
Canada to spend their last days with their sons. The sons want them and work for their
parent’s safety. Personal tragedy, their father is ill very ill; his dream of
return is but a dream his death is a nightmare for his mom. She is a widow, without a husband to care for
her to make sure she can be protected.
She has her sons, four sons, who now are head of the family. Their duty
is to do for their mother what their father can no longer do: care for her,
make sure she is protected and fulfill the dream of going to Canada. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">In her nightmare, her grief, she has a dream:
she can be a grandmother and a doting mother to her loving sons. Her sons, all Canadians, have jobs, and make
a pact, a promise, a pledge: their mom will not be alone. They will come stay
with their mom for two months each.
Petition the Canadian government to fast-track the refugee claimant, so
their loving and beloved mom can come to Canada as a resident. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">The two suitcases were packed with love and are
the keepers of the past, are for the present and open the door to the
future. Legacy and origins matter. You
can see that past matters by the content of their suitcases. Two lives packed
in the suitcases filled with papers, birth and marriage certificates and last
will and testament. Photos of their wedding, their children which is the legacy
of their children growing up in Syria for their grandchildren living now in
Canada. The other part is their clothes
and travel items. One person now has the
two suitcases full of memory with one wish, one hope, to be reunited with
family.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"> We hear
of men doing evil deeds. They thrive on hate, create hell for all those living
on earth. Yet, there is another reality which is love, the love of a son
towards his mom, and the love of a mother for her sons. War causes not only
confusion, but also hate, anger, division, unrest, and even death. Families are
broken: fathers are killed, mothers abused, and children see what they should
not see or feel. War can also bring
about the reunification of a family - especially in Canada where we as
Canadians pride ourselves because of our humanitarian principles. We offer refuge to those who have none. There
is a fear of invasion or radicalization, of unrest and uprising. An old woman of 80 is not threat to security.
She saw war, she lived through it, and she now wants a few final years to dote
on her loving sons and grandchildren. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"> Her sons
will not forsake her as they live the commandment to "honor thy
parent." They will leave their own
wives and children to go and stay with their mom in Lebanon. In those two
months, the sons make sure they have enough money to care for their home in
Canada, pay bills, feed their family over here. No salary coming in, living off
savings. Money is not their motivation; it is family, it is life, a good life
for their mother. The hope she will be there to be a doting grandmother, a
mother-in-law and a mother. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">On humanitarian grounds and for the love of family,
of surviving love please help this family, and fast-track their humanitarian
request. Make sure that a family is reunited out of love for an older woman
with two suitcases, who has four loving sons.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Video from CTV that speaks Mrs. Katbe http://montreal.ctvnews.ca/laval-man-urges-ottawa-to-fast-track-widow-mother-s-arrival-1.2594435#_gus&_gucid=&_gup=Facebook&_gsc=i1OWgjS<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US">UPDATE:</span></b><span lang="EN-US"> Mrs. Katbe will be coming to Canada
hopefully soon by the end of the year ---
we ask that her application be fast tracked so she can be reuinited with
her loving sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

I have a broken heart as First Nation or indigenous women are being raped, kidnapped and too often murdered. LET US DEMAND REDRESS from our leaders.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
No one cares that their blood is spilled in vain. No one seems to care that the blood of the innocent is being spilled. No one seems to care. Their lives matter. They are daughters, mothers and someone’s friend. They often leave behind families worrying, wondering, thinking, asking and now demanding answers to the ultimate question, "Will she come back?"</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Few politicians have taken up this important cause. Even fewer have done anything. My heart is breaking because of the inaction on the part of elected officials. Bring back our girls falls of deaf ears. This is why I am writing this short piece to create solidarity with First Nation women and to make October 5, 2015, the day we go RED at Waking UP Woman. The date that was requested was October 4 which is a Sunday. I did make a mistake on the date, however. October 5, is a Monday. We can generate more attention as we all go out wearing RED and speaking not for, but about the MISSING AND MURDERED First Nation women and demand from political leaders to speak about their plan to help the women.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
I see RED anytime I read an article in newspapers that speaks of those MISSING women and girls. I see RED when no one talks about the MISSING girls. I see RED when pleas for an inquiry fall on deaf ears as the buck is passed to the Police. I see RED when I find out that the RCMP stated in a report that over 1000 First Nation women have gone missing in the past 10 years and no one has spoken about them. We are blinded by uncaring media and we have become deaf because of uncaring reporters and journalists as we did not hear their pleas, their cries, and their voices. Some journalists do care. Canada AM on Monday October 5, 2015 will have a feature about the Missing and Murdered First Nation women.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
IDLE NO MORE has had a campaign that is now being listened to. It is time for us to cast a vote. We are asked to make a choice as voting matters. Let us ask our politicians to prioritize the cause of First Nation women who have gone missing and been killed.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
MISSING and MURDERED First Nation women in Canada should go viral and should have the support of every woman in the world. Because, indigenous women all around the world are missing and killed. It can be done in solidarity and empathy with the Yezidi women, the Assyrian women, the Syriac killed by violent men of IS, the Nigerian women kidnapped by Boko Haram. We can gain support from various communities: the Jewish community whose women and men were in the Holocaust, African American and Canadian women who were enslaved, the LGBT community where women have been raped or even killed.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; display: inline; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-top: 6px;">
Each and every woman regardless of her skin tone, her religion her ethnicity or origin, can relate to First Nation women and, in my opinion, should join the GO RED campaign. I add GO RED DRESS IN RED, DEMAND REDRESS.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">CJAD in Montreal, reported a very disturbing
incident that involved Valerie Assouline the Conservative candidate in federal
riding of Pierrefonds/Dollard des Ormeaux that was not only sexist but sexual
harassment and sexually explicit. I could say that it was a verbal pornography
that encourages sexual abuse and condones rape of women, all women. She took action and called the media and CJAD
responded with an article. Highlighting
these problems matters as she condemns all attacks be they verbal, graphic -
such as graffiti, or defacing posters of the candidate. This time the vandals
and hooligans went one step further: they used sexist and sexual explicit
messages. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">This is very disturbing and needs to be talked
about. Women from all parties should get together and talk about this important
topic.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Vandalism: Political campaigns and posters are
targeted by graffiti artists. You see mustaches on candidates, glasses are
added, the vandals use a marker, a paint brush or a spray-paint can. At times you can see a swastika. Or political
comment on the leader regardless of his/her party. I have seen words like communist or leftist
spray painted on posters of the NDP or the Green Party.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Racism: Nazi or the swastika spray-painted on
posters of Jewish candidates. Even some said “Jews go home” First Nation candidates had words like
“savage”. Muslim women had words like
“terrorist” or Muslim preceded by a religious slur spray painted.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Sexism: First Nation women candidates saw words
like “savage” or “Fat Cow” spray painted.
Black women could read: “Whore” on their posters. Derogatory words I saw
targeting women of all parties included: Whore, Lesbian, and the "F"
word used a prefix…<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">This graffiti destroys private property, on one
hand, and is sexist and racist on the other.
Women have been sexually discriminated against for years. It is time for it to STOP. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! STOP raping women physically and with words.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">These racist and sexist vandals, hooligans MUST
be exposed as such. In an ideal world,
they would be held responsible for their choice of words and would be
prosecuted and labelled as racist, sexist,
misogynist jerks. Too many men
have swept it under the proverbial carpet. Time to lift the carpet because it
is hiding a hill that can become a mountain.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Some may think that the vandals are teenagers
while it has often been proved that some older men in the 50s and 60s were the
criminals. These men need training; first in gender equality, second in respect
of women, all women, regardless of their political affiliation, nationality,
ethnicity, religion, or sexuality. We share one thing in common that makes us
daughters, sisters, mothers: We are WOMEN.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US">Women, both individually and collectively, are
waking up. They are taking charge of their lives and are entering politics.
Each woman who is a candidate has a cause that matters to her. Let us listen to their message, discuss the
issue, think and respect. Let us use words to offer a rebuttal or to offer an
alternative solution. Let us use our pens and the power of words to expose
those misogynist hooligans who rape women verbally, who spray paint sexually
explicit words, be they on the sign of any woman candidate of any party. It is
easy to dismiss it and say, “Oh well, she is (add the party)”. </span>The
reality is that it affects all women. <o:p></o:p></div>

<span lang="EN-US">The “old boys” Clubs had signs saying, "No
girls allowed." Yet, there is a New
Boys’ club where men include WOMEN. I think: WOMEN as a group, must be stick
together and develop a gender inclusive girls/women's club or sisterhood. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
